smelly fish

was just about to make a fish pie. Salmon and cod. use by date today. When i opened the packets they both smell very strong. almost eggy. this isnt normal is it?

no. if fish smells fishy it's past its best. With most things I would go up to a few days past the best before date, but with fish by the time you get to the best before or use by date it will be well past its best.

We generally eat fish the day we buy it.
