My sister is cooking paella for Mothers Day and I am providing the sangria and the dessert, any suggestions as to what to take/make?

Crema catalana? Think it's basically like creme brulee, but usually served in dinky terracotta dishes.

Recipe here

Or just a lovely platter of fresh fruits?

oranges in caramel - yum

MargaretMountford · 20/03/2009 10:26

is crema catalana the thing that's always referred to as flan ?

Juwesm · 20/03/2009 10:27

I think flan is more like a creme caramel - unmoulded with runny caramel rather than the burnt sugar crust. Think there was a flan recipe on the same site as the crema catalana link. But as far as I know, both egg-based custard desserts!

yummy whatever they're called !

Juwesm · 20/03/2009 10:28

Spanish desserts aren't very adventurous. In restaurants you'll generally be offered flan, natillas (basically cold custard), arroz con leche (cold rice pudding) and ice cream.

This Tarta de Santiago is nice served with ice-cream or cream.

Sopapillas are amazing.

You can sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and serve with honey and chocolate for dipping.

Easy to make too

emmabemmasmom · 20/03/2009 10:58

Oh, same website also has a sopapilla cheesecake which is to die for and soooo easy to make! Made it last week and my DH ate all of it in one day

mmmmmm crema catalana is delicious - it's exactly the same as creme brulee but flavoured subtly with orange (I think)
