What can I do with saffron?

My mum has just been to Morocco and brought me back several small packs of saffron.

Apart from turning rice and currant buns yellow, what can I do with it?

Tastes great with mashed potatoes

It fantastic in a tomato and chicken or tomato and fish type stew. Saffron cake is gorgeous. Also nice in a thin tomato sauce to serve with meatballs. There's a recipe for in 1080 Recipes which I can try to find for you at some point later on, if you like.

Paella?

risotto, pilaf, paella, just about any rice dish, even rice pudding.
infuse in a little hot water add to mayonnaise.
stews/ tangines, cous cous.
old victorian idea of a saffron cake.
it is a bit like marmite like/loathe and go easy, just a pinch to start as it can have a strong taste

It's a fantastic spice and extremely expensive so use it sparingly or save it for special dishes...or...send it to me please!
