What's gone wrong with my rice pudding?!

I normally make rice pudding on the hob but I thought I'd have a go at doing it in the oven, so I didn't have to stand there and stir it. But it's gone horribly wrong! It's all split - instead of being creamy, it's watery with little curdy bits.

I did 50g pudding rice, a pint of milk, a bit of sugar and vanilla extract and also some raisins, dried cranberries and mixed spice. I cooked it for about an hour and a half and stirred it a couple of times. It was looking OK until I checked after a hour and a half. The rice is cooked and it tastes OK ish but just not creamy!

What happened?! Was the dried fruit a mistake?

I would say its the acidity of the fruit which caused this, probably the cranberries, since I've made it with other dried fruit before. I've seen the same thing happen with apricots

Thanks - that'll teach me to mess around with rice pudding!
I made another (plain) batch on the hob and it was delicious.

I nearly always do mine in the oven, but heat the milk and sugar up first on the hob. DH loves rice pudding, and I use it as a bribe to get round him sometimes
