well, just made Nigella's brownies with DS and IF I SAY SO MYSELF they knock Mr Kipling right out of the park! So easy too. I've decided to have brownies for lunch and dinner today

well, i could only eat about six. Me and the cubs have a sweet tooth (BIG on brushing teeth in our house!). I also made bread rolls for the first time in many years - they're in the oven. Haven't baked for ages but DS begged me this morning and now the kitchen is in chaos, shopping still not put away, I'm on here stuffing brownies. Am not domestic goddess after all!!!

that took me much longer to decipher than normal...

Really should try this housewife lark some day

I have a Domestic Goddess pinny.

WideWebWitch · 18/04/2005 13:22

Oh well done kbear. I made vegetarian shepherds pie this morning which is cooling on the sparkling work top as I type!

KBear · 18/04/2005 13:25

LOL at sparkling work top. I can't even see mine under bags of unpacked shopping and flour! DS is happy though, loves a bit of baking that boy, teach them young I say. ooh, rolls are ready. Off to taste.. I mean test them!!

any chance of plagiarising the recipe for us KBear?

KBear · 18/04/2005 13:37

absolutely - I halved this quantity (makes 48 otherwise and even I'm not that much of a pig!).

375g soft unsalted butter (but I use Flora in all my baking and this works fine).
375 g chocolate (I used belgian milk choc - you choose)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
225 g plain flour (I used sr flour cos that's all I had - worked ok).
6 eggs
I tsp salt - (can't see the point of adding salt so I didn't)
300g chopped nuts (I used walnuts and pecans but use whatever you want. Nigella suggests cherries, choc chips, or cruncy oat cereal)

Melt choc and butter, beat eggs and sugar together, add to choc mixture, add flour and nuts, mix well (very sloppy mixture, not like cake mixture). Pour in lined tin.

Cake tin - 33cmx23x5cm - don't know what that is in old money

180 degrees or Gas mark 4 for 25-30 mins.

Ooh, the bread rolls are superb. I will admit more un-goddess like behaviour - I bought bread mix so just added water and kneaded it but de-lish! Anyone know weightwatcher's number?

I feel sick - too many brownies for this bear.

Will walk to school this afternoon extra fast to work it all off!

quick question fellow goddesses - can you freeze home-made bread or will it go brick-like? Or will I have to eat it all today?

tough job but someone has to do it.

well it will get eaten I suppose - who needs dinner anyway? Bread for main course, brownies for pud. Not a trace of a vegetable? Am I in heaven? DH might not be quite as excited about it having been at work for twelve hour shift, out of the house since 4.45 this morning and freezing all day! We'll see .
