I have Nigella-so so.

I want one that does loads of gorgeous interesting cakes that come out really high and huge.

If you live in the Southwest one that produces cakes like those sold in Boston Tea Party.

I like this one.
It's not trendy, but the recipes work and it is a very useable book.

What blametheparents recommends. Tis fab book - basic cakes to fancy 'continental' cakes.

this one by Donna Hay is good - best millionaire shortbread recipe EVER - but not strictly a cake book.

I quite like this one - it's not just round cakes, it's cupcakes, traybakes, meringues - everything I've made so far has been wonderful.

I've never bought a Mary Berry book but now I'm tempted....

This Mary Berry is really good.

Good Housekeeping books are the best for always turning out. They test their recipes hundreds (not literally!) of times before they are finalised. Also really easy to follow. Mine is getting so tatty, its falling to bits - a good sign for a recipe book IMO
