Hi hope im in the right place. my parents have just said that they will give £50 for a weeks shopping. But all the meals in the evening plus pud are like youd get in the 50's so i urgently need recipes and inspiration for me dh and ds. the only fish we eat is cod or pollock but the rest need to be meat or poultry. thanks

Scottish recipes have lots of traditional recipes

What about Stovies, lamb stew or rumbledethumps.

Well, I suppose you could interpret 50s style food as meat and potatoes with veg. Or would that be a bit extravagant?

Things like cottage pie, shepherds pie, mince and onions, hotpot.

My mother told me that when she was little they would have : roast on Sunday, rissoles on Monday, stew on Tuesday and something else on Wednesday. So they'd use the same piece of meat for at least 4 meals.

Puddings - treacle sponge, bananas and custard, jam rolypoly, jam tarts, crumble, cobbler, trifle...
