molasses syrup? What is it?

And what can I use as an alternative. It's in a recipe for ginger cake and tesco doesn't sell it.

I think it's black treacle. That's what I've seen other ginger cake recipes stating. Thingummy's do it- you know, the same ones who do Golden Syrup. Tate and Lyle? I think the tin is red and silver.

Treacle will do.
Molasses is usually a bit less sweet than treacle.
