like you get in the supermarket. how would you make it?

My oh wants to make some for his lunces while he's on a training course but we're struggling to find a recipe, there's too many out there & I can't work out which ones will be like the bought stuff & he's a fussy eater. If I send the wrong stuff he's likely to not eat it & wait for tea when he gets home

Any ideas? Thanks

My favourite recipe is new potatoes cooked and cubed, mayonnaise and chopped spring onions

HelpwithNameNeeded · 09/03/2009 08:47

Same as Macdog but with added chopped bacon

Boiled potatoes, preferably new, chopped up and mixed with salad cream. Then taste it and bung in a bit of chopped spring onion and that should be fairly like shop ones. You can then vary it by adding chopped egg, celery, peppers, peas etc and experiment with dressings. HTH!

oh, that's simple. I really ought to be more creative & think about how to do stuff!

Thanks Mac, will do that with the lo this afternoon

oh, everyone does the same thing! chopped bacon sounds a good addition & if he wants anything else in it then he can put it in himself.

Thanks all

As everyone says above. Personally, I love garlic and mushrooms (fry gently first before mixing in with salt, pepper and mayonnaise). But the secret to really nice potato salad is to put the potatoes into the mayonnaise hot, don't wait for them to cool.

Half natural youghurt, half mayonnaise, boiled new pots (I like it served slightly warm) with chopped cornichons (little pickled cucumbers). Alternatively for a lighter version just drizzle with olive oil rather than a mayo dressing.

notamumyetbutoneday · 09/03/2009 09:19

half a teaspoon of coarsegrain/wholegrain mustard as well as the mayo gives it a nice taste. sprinkle with chopped chives

I sometimes pour on some French dressing while the potatoes are still warm, as well as adding mayo when cooled. Spring onions defo a top tip, adds a lovely flavour. Also like it with bacon, peas, sweetcorn.
