School meals question- free ones

There's a chance that from June Dh will be amde redundant. Not a definite and if that happens he will find something even if its a Uni place, we'll cope. C'est la vie and all that.

But school have issued a letter to all parents saying you can only get free school meals next year if you apply now; is that true? So if DH loses his job in June the ds's can't have them then? Or is the usual school being an arse again case?

I'm sure that's not true.

I only started getting the DS's free school meals (well packed lunches as neither school servces hot food) in October last year. I went into the infant school office and asked what I had to do, she handed me a form (well 2 actually) and very kindly told me to bring them back to her and she'd fax it off so they came through quicker. She rang the junior school and told them she'd sent it off for me.

They were sorted in less than a week.
