cake without an oven?

MitchyInge · 08/03/2009 18:54

I still haven't tracked down a replacement element for my oven, however am managing well with hob, slow cooker, breadmaker and microwave

except I badly need CAKE

I really need to make one NOW

am I overlooking something obvious or is it impossible to make cakes without an oven?

oh there is a chocolate one! THANK YOU

mild shame at not thinking to google microwave cake recipes - I was restricting myself to choc refrigerator cake which is not what I fancy at all, I want spongey stuff!

You can make cakes in the breadmaker. Does your handbook have recipes in? My Panasonic does.

Sponge puddings (treacle sponge, jam sponge etc) can be made in the microwave.

You can do cakes in slow cookers apparently. I've never done it but keep meaning to try.

Here's an example, there are some others on the right hand side bar

oh thanks again, I wondered if it was possible to use the slow cooker and/or the breadmaker

I made some cake mix for the microwave and ate it half-cooked, I really am a sorry excuse for a human being sometimes

I suppose that's why God invented custard, for cakes that are a little dry

(at least am not craving cake for the time being, just nursing a mild tummy ache instead)

Just remembered I made a cake in my bread machine once. It was pretty good actually. It was a fairly basic fruit cake type thing the recipe was from the machine's leaflet.
