Toddler lunch ideas that can be served cold as packed lunch

The current favourite at the moment is mediterranean (sp) vegetable couscous, which is nice served warm or cold.
Dd isn't keen on sandwiches and is allergic to eggs.

Any ideas what she can take as a packed lunch and share with her nanny?

Tuna Pasta Salad (pasta twists, tuna, apple, cucumber, red peppers, tomatoes all chopped and mixed with mayonaise)

Apple & Cheese - the picnic lunch we always had as a child when out for a walk. DD has hers all chopped up and with added raisins in a tub.

Coctail sausages and/or Hummus, with cucumber, peppers, celery, carrot sticks etc.

Filled pita breads

Tortilla wraps

spanish omelette

FeelingLucky · 07/03/2009 07:50

Thanks for ideas.
DD allergic to eggs, so can't have spanish omelette.

Like the sound of tuna pasta salad, but wonder if can use creme fraiche to bind together instead of mayonaise (because of egg allergy)?

I don't see why not. (Sorry forget there was egg in mayonaise.)

You could use anything, it just needs something to moisten it.

What about:

  • Crossiant filled with ham, cheese or cream cheese or salami
  • Salami and olives with cucumber/carrot sticks, soft tortilla wraps/triangles
  • Pasta spirals with tuna, cucumber, pesto
  • Mini Pittas (M&S do lovely wholemeal ones) stuffed
  • Wraps - again stuffed with anything
FeelingLucky · 08/03/2009 20:11

Sparkfartdust - I'm just going to make up the noodle salad recipe - see it as a cold stirfry and probably use egg noodles. though if anyone has a tried and trusted recipe, I'd be more than interested.

Sounds good FeelingLucky.

some lovely ideas here. The only thing I can add is:
Bean salad with cucumber etc

Nice fruit salad to finish

FeelingLucky · 08/03/2009 21:25

We've also thought of quiche.
also onion tart
mini vegetable pies

we often have pasta (fusilli) with cooked salmon and pesto to bind it together - pesto not allowed in nursery becasue of pine nuts but can whizz together some basil, parmsan and olive oil for same effect if desperate.

Also my 3 year old love to have "chicken on the bone" ie roasted chicken drumsticks that you can just pickup and eat - usually give her some salad etc to go with it,

My dds like to make little lentil pies in mince pie trays. They fry up some onion, finely chopped carrot and celery, some spices and a drained tin of green lentils then use it to fill pastry cases then top with more pastry. They are happy to eat these hot or cold with salad.
