I have been rummaging through my baking cupboard this evening & come across an unopened jar of mincemeat. Its bbe is July this year but, if I keep it unopened, do you think it would be ok for this years mince pies maybe?

yes fine, I've just had some mint sauce which has been opened in a jar in the fridge, and the bbe date was july 07.

When I make home-made preserves (is mincemeat a preserve?) I expect them to last for years - they may lose a little flavour but not go off if properly sealed.
