Anybody else loathe fruit - smell, taste, everything about it?

Just wondering really. I have never,as long as I can remember, eaten fruit. I can't bear the smell, hate touching it and the thought of eating it makes me feel sick. I feel very weird! Not the same with veggies although I'm not their biggest fan. My 8 year old ds also eats no fruit but his brother absolutely loves it! Would love to know if there is anyone else out there the same as me.

I haven't really eaten fruit in years - I gave up sugar and part of that was not to eat fruit.
I can't bear the thought of eating a banana (boak), and fibd oranges too acid.
Pineapples take the skin off my tongue - need I go on?
I occasionally have an apple at bedtime but it's purely functional as something to stave off bedtime hunger.

Absolutely love fruit! The only thing that I don't like are pomegranates.

My ds says the same, littlemissworry - I love fruit and I really don't understand him. So glad to hear someone else saying what he says!
He loves all vegetables, though, even sprouts!

At least I'm not the one and only! Sometimes I think I should go on Freaky Eaters

Well bananas are a bit of a two minute wonder...

MrsMattie · 06/03/2009 19:53

I dont loathe it, but I am not a fruit person, really. I probably eat a couple of pieces a week.

I eat tons of veg, though - absolutely love it and proobably exceed my 5-a-day just with veg.

Funnily, DS loathes veg but will eat fruit all day. He is 4 and will easily eat in a day: 2 apples, 2 bananas, an orange, a bowl of grapes and a bowl of some sort of berry. he is a fruit fiend.

castlesintheair · 06/03/2009 19:53

I have a male friend who absolutely hates fruit. He actually finds it hard to sit next to someone when they are eating it.

bestfriendswithbenefits · 06/03/2009 19:54

I can take or leave fruit, so I take it because I know it's good for me, but I don't eat a huge amount, and would rather eat salad and veg.

random · 06/03/2009 19:56

I never eat fruit love salad and veg but can't remember the last time I ate a piece of fruit

nowwearefour · 06/03/2009 19:57

i did go off fruit when pregnant and have not got back onto as many as i previously loved. grapefruit and bananas and grapes ar always easy to eat though

MinnieMummy · 06/03/2009 20:00

I hate it. We were forced to eat it at junior school (I didn't like it before then) and it gave me an automatic 'shudder' sensation. Can't stand salad either - anything cold, wet and fibrous gives me chills just thinking about it. You are not alone!
Fed DD a banana last week and I felt really nauseous. Vile, vile, vile!

Portofino · 06/03/2009 20:00

I don't like fruit either. Maybe oranges but then i can't be bothered. Veg I love, even sprouts, cabbage, spinach etc

TattyCatty · 06/03/2009 20:33

I really struggle with fruit - will do "small" stuff like strawberries or grapes, but that's about it. Bananas are the work of the devil. Thankfully, I like all veg but didn't for the first 18 years or so of my life. Daughter is thankfully a fruit fiend, but takes some persuading on the veg.

littlemissworry · 06/03/2009 20:37

Oh yes - bananas are grim. Especially when you have to mash them up for babies. YUCK! And tomatoes too. That dreadful jellyish bit in the middle! But then they're ok on pizza or in a pasta sauce. Weird!

I am the exact same but idk why I hate the smell of fruits I also feel very emotional when near fruits ( they have to be opened tho) and smell them

MirandaMarple · 02/05/2021 23:43

I just find it really boring in its raw form. I like it in salad, savoury dishes, gin etc.

julietmanchester · 08/05/2021 02:05

I couldn't imagine. I practically live on berries and almonds

GVmama · 08/05/2021 11:23

My son is almost fruit phobic, he has such a strong reaction to them even just the smell. I remember him as a baby visibly shuddering when trying a piece of tangerine and dropping it off his high chair. He was offered fruit every day at nursery and school snack time but would never try any. I think a lot of adults don’t eat fruit, I quite like most fruit but probably only eat one or two portions a week.

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/05/2021 16:12

I much prefer veg to fruit, I don't have a sweet tooth, I do eat fruit, but only the pre-cut boxes, whole fruit is just a hassle to me.
My favourite is mango.

FrancesFlute · 13/05/2021 09:28

I love eating fruit but really struggle with the smells of some. Don't like the smell of bananas, melon and artificial strawberry. I physically hold my breath when DS or DH eat a strawberry yogurt.

FireWafer · 13/05/2021 17:26

I hate fruit. I can manage a raisins and dried fruit in tea cakes, hot cross buns and fruit cakes but other than that it makes me puke.
I tried a grape the other day and it taste like dishwater and I hated the texture of the skin left in my mouth. I also hate fresh tomatoes and cucumber. I find the texture of raw carrots very difficult too but cooked is fine!
veg on the other hand is delicious and I will pretty much eat ANYTHING. The smellyer the better! People always look at me like I'm an alien when I tell them about my hatred for fruit. My kids will happily eat any fruit put in front of them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/05/2021 20:46

My daughter is more of a veg eater too, even though there was always plenty of fruit provided when she was growing up.
