What made my soup bitter?

I made carrot and orange soup - took blardy ages what with the homemade crusty rolls. Had to chuck the whole lot as it tasted foul.

The only thing I could think of was that I put half an orange in towards the end (sans peel) and put the rest aside to eat later. It all cooked down and then I put it in the mixer. Before soup sampling I ate the rest of my Orange and it was FULL of seeds. Could a couple of ground up seeds alter the flavour of the soup altogether?

Ingredients were basic; onion, celery, carrots, tomato and a few herbs and seasoning.

Maybe it was just peeved having to wait for the bread to rise?

LOL, there's nothing worse than a sardonic soup

Perhaps it needed a touch of butter? . Not from the fridge.

Definitley the pips.

LOL!

I was going to go and eat a pip just to test my theory but I didn't want to have that thing where the flavour gets imprinted (as with songs and smells sometimes) as I have trifle for pud.

I don't like oranges in savoury food - always remind me of barf (had too many years with morning sickness).

A teaspoonful of sugar is very good in soup. It counteracts any acidity (eg from onions, or in this case, oranges).

This exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago! that was carrot and orange soup as well!

Im sure it was the orange in my case as like you I added it right at the end, and before that the soup had tasted fine. i think maybe the zestwas bitter or I grated too much of the pith in.
