MIL coming for dinner. I am meant to be making apple crumble but I only have castor sugar or granulated. Can't go out as have had a couple of glasses of wine. What will happen if I use this sort of sugar. I have no back up pudding. Please help me!

I always use castor sugar or granulated. What should I be using then?

MegGriffin · 01/03/2009 15:07

Really? I thought it had to be brown sugar? Thanks ANTagony, obviously thats not the case then.

I use caster sugar for the topping and usually brown in the apples and a sprinkle over the top of the crumble but could use either that you have instead of the brown. It'll be fine.

My crumble is

1 part sugar (any)
1 part flour
1 part oats
I part butter

and I warm the butter up in the microwave and pour it into the dry ingredients and mix. Slap it on the fruit gloop and bung in the oven. So simple it's untrue
