erm, does your 2yo eat chicken tikka?

or other spicy/hot foods?

Just wondered as my 2yo has just helped me polish off the MOF tikka that I made the other day, without batting an eyelid at the heat/spiciness, she just kept coming back for "mooooooore mummy" & munching it with a huge grin on her face

My oh on the other hand, struggles with spicy foods & sweats buckets & complains that his mouth is on fire even though he enjoys the flavours.

DS much prefers flavoured food, and when we abandoned bland stuff around 10 months he started to eat with gusto. His favourite is enchiladas!

lucysmam · 22/02/2009 12:40

Maybe I ought to be more adventurous with what I give her then. What other things does your ds enjoy OhBollocks?

He likes curries, chilli, spicy potato wedges, guacamole is the latest fad. Anything we have fortunately - he seems to prefer strong flavours. Obv nothing too spicy and great care taken to make sure he doesn't rub his eyes!

foxinsocks · 22/02/2009 19:35

yes, mine loved curry but if she is still in nappies, boy do I feel sorry for you tomorrow.

used2bthin · 22/02/2009 19:35

My DD loves spicey food, she is 2.5. In fact we have curry once a week at the family centre, she usually wolfs it down. She loves chilli type stuff too but doesnt have it often as tomato makes her excema flare up.

cmotdibbler · 22/02/2009 19:39

DS loves curry - in fact we had it today for lunch. He also wolfs down chilli etc, and likes sweet chilli sauce if someone picks out most of th actual chilli flakes

lucysmam · 22/02/2009 19:41

lmao foxinsocks, she's constipated atm so it should do some good hopefully.

I think we'll share with her next time we have a curry in that case, I never thought to before because it seemed a little too much maybe at her age but obviously worth trying if other kids are eating and enjoying different foods

DS (18mo) has been on curry for ages. I try to keep the chilli count down but use all the other spices. Particularly popular if served with yoghurt or coconut milk. Lentils & chickpeas are really healthy. Planning to try him on Thai chicken green curry tomorrow.

lucysmam · 23/02/2009 18:14

Well she seemed to enjoy it so am going to make a mild-ish curry for her tomorrow to freeze in portions. & next time we eat something spicy, I'll not be so cautious about sharing . . . unless I'm feeling greedy

DS3 (21 months) loves a medium chilli con carne

lucysmam · 23/02/2009 18:19

erm, foxinsocks. . . unfortunately your prediction about the nappies was wrong, she's still constipated &uncomfy

Both of mine love spicy food, ds can take it hotter than I can (and I could eat it hotter than usual when I was pregnant with him so maybe there is something in that...). They've been eating curries and chilli etc since weaning, never occurred to me not to give it to them

paddingtonbore · 23/02/2009 18:24

23mo DD enjoys spicy food. thus far I had been making separate curries for her with all the spices but without the heat. but over the weekend she snaffled a lamb bhuna from our takeway, and asked for the same again tonight.

I'm now regretting the time I spent making separate, milder curries for her .

lljkk · 23/02/2009 18:39

DSs yes, especially DS2. DD would scream in horror though. She (like me) can't even handle the 'hotness' of ordinary toothpaste, we are both on the baby stuff.

lou031205 · 23/02/2009 18:44

Mine loved it as soon as they could eat it.

mumtoash · 24/02/2009 00:19

ny little boy loves anything spicy. hotter the better!!! he started on tikka n korma at 12 months. shows a liking for stronger tastes. smile

Clary · 24/02/2009 00:22

Mine all loved spicy food (samosas etc) at an early age, certainly by 2 no problemo.

roffle at nappies comment tho how true

Clary · 24/02/2009 00:23

sorry lucysmam, just saw yr follow-up nappies comment, not meaning to laugh at you or DD.

Try lots of water and some fresh fruit.

mine both like a little spice plus they devour any curry or chilli we make with these sauces.

EllieG · 24/02/2009 09:32

Gave my ten month old pork and aubergine curry I made - she loved it but the nappies were ugh ugh ugh

lucysmam · 24/02/2009 15:32

landnsdad, those sauces are a tad out of my price range but I like the hidden fruit & veg idea even though my lo will eat any fruit or veg usually. Some of what's in them I would never have thought of trying to 'hide'

wasabipeanut · 24/02/2009 15:39

My 18mo is being a bugger with food at the moment but still has a marked preference for more oomphy flavours and always has - he has never liked white sauces and that sort of hting but always gone for quite strong more tomatoey/peppery type flavors.

I wouldn't overdo the chilli - just enough to make his tongue tingle a bit but he likes other spices - cumin, paprika etc.

PortAndLemon · 24/02/2009 15:42

DD (10 months) will eat spicy food. When DS was two he would eat spicy food. Now he's four he protests at anything even faintly spicy. I am hoping he'll get over it in time.
