Defrosting meat question from an ignorant veggie

I have got a portion of cottage pie in the freezer that I want to give to DS for his tea tomorrow night. What is the safest way to defrost it:

  1. Put it in the fridge now?
  1. Get it out of the freezer tomorrow morning and leave at room temp?
  1. Defrost in the microwave at teatime tomorrow?

Thanks, I am a veggie so am clueless about food hygiene when it comes to meat!

Personally, I'd put it in the fridge overnight, and take a look an hour or two before you want to cook it - if it's still crunchy then, I'd take it out and leave at room temp to finish defrosting.
