Leeks are strong enough...I wouldn't bother with anything. Maybe chopped chives?

MrsMattie · 18/02/2009 14:05

Spice? Ummm...paprika?

Breadcrumbs make it nice and crunchy. You could mix them with herbs of your choice.

snooks · 18/02/2009 14:09

chilli flakes and black pepper?

Mum1369 · 18/02/2009 14:31

I was thinking paprika (the others sound yummy too) - will paprika definately be ok ? What about nutmeg ????????????

Nutmeg is good mixed with leaks and potato and also the mince in your sheperds pie.

Do not over do it though.

nkf · 18/02/2009 14:33

I wouldn't put anything. Why would you?

Ivykaty44 · 18/02/2009 14:33

nutmeg on top and cinnamon inside

theyoungvisiter · 18/02/2009 14:34

I wouldn't bother - I'm sure paprika would taste ok but IMO it would just detract from the delicate flavour of the leeks and potato.

I would just sprinkle with butter and grind some fresh black pepper on top - yum (although cheese is very good too )

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/02/2009 14:35

Don't bother! There is no need if you've used leeks and potatoes - will just be overkill. Just keep under the grill/in the oven till the top of the potato browns nicely.

kitbit · 18/02/2009 14:36

I sprinkle with herbes de provence on top of the spuds. Knobs of butter too. Nice and simple!

Or mustard beaten into the mash that's yum too.

Great - thanks all!
Think I will go safe and do the black pepper and a bit of cheese......
Going to remember the cinnamon for next time though...sounds yum
