DD has just started walking and seems to needs more top ups in between meals.
I usually give her

fruit (she eats all fruit I give her but I'm worried shes having too much because of her teeth)

Breadsticks

Dried figs/apricots

Any more ideas

Home made oaty biscuits? I have a recipe adapted from AK if you're interested (I found hers way too sugary)

TeaSleepFood · 17/02/2009 08:58

cucumber or pepper or carrot sticks?

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 17/02/2009 09:04

I will try cucumber and pepper - shes not keen on raw carrot, she loves it cooked though.

Are the biscuits healthy Teasleep? if so I would love it

Home made muffins. I've made the carrot and pineapple ones from the AK book for DS and he loved them. Fairly healthy, a bit of sugar but you can get away with using less (as with most AK recipes, I've found)

I'm going to make some cheese scones too, I think he'd like those. I'm trying to get away from always giving him sweet things for snacks.

He also really loved tzatiki (sorry, I've spelt that horribly ) yesterday with breadsticks and cucumber to dip in. He looked a bit dubious when I kept saying it was yoghurt but he liked it when he worked up the courage to try it!

As I've removed most of the sugar, I don't think they are that bad!

3 1/2oz unsalted butter
1oz granulated sugar
1oz light brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

4oz plain flour
1 1/2tsp mixed spice (or cinnamon)
1/4tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp bicarb

2 1/2 porridge oats
6oz raisins.

  1. Cream butter and sugar together, then beat in vanilla and egg.
  1. Sift the flour, spice, baking powder, bicarb into a bowl then add to mix and beat until combined.
  1. Stir in oats and raisins
  1. This will make about 20 cookies so have 2 baking sheets greased or lined with greaseproof paper.
  1. Roll dough into truffle sized balls and put them onto the sheet, giving them a little squish down on top (they don't spread much!)
  1. Bake for 12 mins on Gas mark 5 or 190 degrees.
  1. Keep them away from husband (mine ate half a batch at one sitting)

You can add 1/4 tsp of salt if you want but I never saw the point.

Any good?

Ricecakes? I think they taste of polystyrene but my 16 yr old still eats them and loves them! Takes all sorts!

Do they still make Farleys rusks? now I loved them...... but the DC didn't !!

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 17/02/2009 10:39

Thanks teasleepfood, I'll give them a go and good tip about husband

just to add an oops: I use 6oz of flour not 4 (too balance the loss of sugar bulk)
