And what time do you eat it? And what sort of food is it?

Dinner?
Tea?
Supper?

beanieb · 17/02/2009 14:06

dinner.

Marthasmama · 17/02/2009 14:08

Dinner. Don't think I've ever used 'supper'. Is supper not Northern as well? For some reason I think of it as 'Nice bit o' fish for us supper'

OrmIrian · 17/02/2009 14:09

dinner or supper if it's a light meal.

DS#1 takes the piss out of me for being posh but is very adamant that midday meal is lunch!

elsiepiddock · 17/02/2009 14:09

random

I too say school lunch - refuse to say dinner. And I ask other mums if their kids can come to dinner rather than tea!!

I hate myself sometimes.

ohdearwhatamess · 17/02/2009 14:09

Dinner.

Dcs have it at 5.30

I have it at 7.30/8. Dh has it then if he's here, or later if not. He calls it supper on a weekday but dinner at the weekend.

Normal main meal for all parties apart from non-eating ds1.

Botbot · 17/02/2009 14:13

Dinner. At about 8.30pm these days (dd doesn't eat with us - she just has a snack at 6.30ish that we don't call anything really).

The other meal is lunch, though I grew up using 'dinner' and 'tea' so am not as horrified as dh is about nursery calling it 'dinner' rather than 'lunch'.

rachels103 · 17/02/2009 22:27

Dinner - 6 ish and all together whenever possible.

Apart from on Sundays when we might have dinner (i.e. a hot meal) at lunch time and tea (i.e. a cold sandwich type thing) in the evening.

Dh has some kind of mental block with names for meals and calls the evening meal lunch sometimes which bugs me in a disproportionate way.

TheyCallMeStacey · 17/02/2009 22:31

Dinner. Dcs around 6pm, me and Dh around 8.30pm.

ChampagneDahling · 18/02/2009 16:28

Lunch is sometime between 12 and 1.30.
Dinner is a substantial evening meal.
Supper is a light evening meal.
DC have grown out of having "tea" at 4.30 - 5.00 - they are not in the nursery any longer and are also too old for "after school play and tea dates".

If that makes me "posh" then so be it - dahling! I'm comfortable with who I am

I am a Geordie but dinner def. in evening. Far too late in this house, never before 9!! Tea, to me, is something you have in the afternoon - in an ideal world with sandwiches, cakes, scones. mmm . Goes to find scone in freezer and makes a cup of coffee.
