Best chocolate crispy bun recipe?

cktwo · 16/02/2009 13:25

I thought this was the easiest thing to make but my last attempt using rice crispies and chocolate was not impressive.

What do you use? Does it matter what sort of chocolate you use? DH says there should be some golden syrup in with the choc, is this correct?

Would welcome any recipes please. I have promised to make this for half-term activites

Theres a recipe somewhere on here where you can make it with syrup, sugar and cocoa very easy and great if youve eaten all the chocolate!!! Some people add mini mashmellows and raisins too which sounds yummy or you can use melted marse bars i think

I more chocolate these days having had years of the chocolate not quite covering the rice krispies.
I use supercook milk chocolate. Not the chocolate flavored cake covering that you can buy in tesco.

I use Tesco/Sainsbury luxury chocolate (on the baking isle and a huge dollop of golden syrup.

For parties etc I use THIS Mars and Marshmallow Crispie recipe.

stealthsquiggle · 16/02/2009 16:51

What you want is Mars Bars

1 'standard' Mars Bar (or supermarket equivalent)
1 oz butter
1 oz Rice Krispies (or supermarket equivalent)

Multiply as required (we normally multiply by 5 because standard Mars Bars come in packs of 5). Melt mars bars and butter together - keep stirring resulting revolting-looking mixture until it is smooth and gloopy. Add Rice Krispies and stir until combined. Pack into appropriate sized tin. Chill.

Never fails. Grown men will beg for it

I will test out on own grown man tomorrow. He is salivating as he reads

To be on the safe side (burnt mars bar = disappointed customers and/or another trip to the shops) melt mars bars and butter in heatproof bowl over a pan of boiling water rather than directly in a saucepan.

StirlingTheStrong · 17/02/2009 08:45

Or use microwave if you have one - I do it in 20/30 second bursts and then take out and check, stir and return to microwave until all melted.

The mars bar recipe sounds good. Can anyone tell me where I could buy the mini marshmallows thanks?

Tesco have them in with their baking products - they have the plain white ones or bags of white and pink ones.

Failing that, I have bought larger ones and chopped them up before now.
