Jamie Oliver

Am thinking of making Jamie Oliver's beef and ale stew, from The Ministry of Food website. Has anybody made it please and if so, is it good? I'm veggie, so won't be eating it but dp said he'd make it for some friends.

Also - what might be a good starter to serve before a stew? Could I get away with just nice bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, olives etc - or would something else be better?

Thanks!

Olives for starter with bread and oil sounds good - not to heavy before comfort food

I've made that stew its very nice. Olives etc fine for starter (stew is very filling)

Thank you both. Do you think if I doubled the quantities of the stew it would need longer to cook?

Trifle for pud?

Wouldn't have thought much longer to cook I'd probably add on 20 mins but you can leave it for loads longer without killing it .. Jamie seems to add an awful lot of liquid.
you'd need a bloody big pot though (i'd be tempted to do two loads in seperate pots)

I love trifle

(can I come?)

Yes - if you bring a chair!

I do have a big pan but perhaps I'll just add half again of everything, rather than doubling - I need it to serve three adults and four teenagers.

I normally do raspberry trifle with port and almonds. Can anybody suggest something different for a change?

If you are looking for a different trifle recipe then THIS Anglo-Italian Trifle from Nigella is just gorgeous and I am not usually a fan of trifle.

She says to use blackberries but I just get a frozen bag of forest fruits (from m&s) and add that.

Thank you. Am a bit scared of raw egg though!

Any more? And has anybody else made the stew?
