Is maple syrup expensive everywhere?

Somehow I can't get maple syrup locally apart from in M&S. It's £4.99 for a 320g (I'd guess 250ml) bottle. Is it the same all over?

It is expensive. Not sure if it's quite that much, maybe closer to £4.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 13/02/2009 17:57

Yes it's about £2.99 in my local supermarket and a similar price in Tesco.

feetheart · 13/02/2009 17:58

It seems to be, I've been looking for about a month as I was shocked to see it at over £5 in Sainsburys. Starting to run low so hoping someone on here as found a cheaper source.

feetheart · 13/02/2009 17:59

Seashells - where is it £2.99?

My local Co-Op. But it might be a smaller than 250ml. It is quite small. Maybe 150ml?

whinegums · 13/02/2009 18:01

I was quite shocked to see it's now about a fiver a bottle everywhere too.

BrownSuga · 13/02/2009 18:07

In montreal it's CAD10 for a 500ml tin. So I think it's even expensive here.

traceybath · 13/02/2009 18:12

I think it is - i noticed a few months ago how it seemed to have gone up in waitrose.

I did buy some in asda but it wasn't as nice and a smaller bottle.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 13/02/2009 18:15

Lyle's do a make flavoured golden syrup that's quite nice. obviously it's not real but it's much cheaper.

and before you flame me...i'm CANADIAN

suwoo · 13/02/2009 18:16

I bought one from Asda for £1.89...maybe thats a 'flavoured' one too??

NancysGarden · 13/02/2009 18:16

Sainsbury's own maple syrup is fairly inexpensive.

Ceolas · 13/02/2009 19:49

I had seen that one purplemonkey but couldn't quite bring myself! Maybe worth a try though

It has really shot up in price! Is it a conspiracy?! I used to buy it weekly to make granola and have been shocked by the hike in price... It must have more than doubled in price suddenly... Is there an international shortage of the stuff?!

jumpyjan · 13/02/2009 20:02

Its currently £1 in Asda! Check out the pancake day aisle. Had a look at it and its def proper maple syrup so bargain.

StirlingTheStrong · 13/02/2009 20:19

This is weird - I was looking for some today and our local (small) Tesco and they have stopped stocking it. I had to send h to our nearest Sainsbury's and he got some but it was more than £4.

BTW I buy the Tate & Lyle maple flavoured syrup to drizzle on the pancakes - I only use the real thing in the mixture. Sometimes a girls got to do what a girls got to do!!
