Starter to go with this?

Valentine's Day, (sorry) planning on doing pepper steak with dauphinoise potatoes and veg of some kind, then chocolate pudding.

Any ideas for a starter? I was thinking of just melting a camembert in the box and dipping bread into it, but thought that I should see what the fountain of all human wisdom thought.

That's Mumsnet, by the way

I would do something light like smoked salmon and rocket as the main and pudding is very filling

PollyGarter · 11/02/2009 20:03

oysters?

TrillianAstra · 11/02/2009 20:22

The pudding is rich but it's only very small really, so hopefully shouldn't be too much. If you gave me one now I could eat it in three bites

Oysters are really not my thing, sorry.

I like the idea of a tart , DH is doing this as a starter on Valentines day (i am doing main and dessert).

I do a very easy tart with pesto and tomato and mozzarella 9doesnt have a proper name cos made it up) which is nice and not too heavy.

A warm salad with bacon lardons and croutons?

notamumyetbutoneday · 12/02/2009 09:41

second smoked salmon or even a smoked salmon/mackarel pate

ClaraDeLaNoche · 12/02/2009 09:45

Mmmh sounds yummy. Like the idea of salad. What about avocado, pancetta and parmesan on fresh spinach, with a classic french dressing. Or your tomato tart with puff pastry and some goats cheese.

TrillianAstra · 12/02/2009 10:45

Mmm, thanks for all the suggestions, I may have to start doing starters more often.
