apple sauce??

nan says just peel some normal eating apples and simmer them til sauce like.....is it really that simple?? sorry....being thick here!!! we are having pork today and i thought i would try and do some to go with it. bet you all think im a right thick cow now!

I think it's better with Bramleys. Peel, slice into a pan. Add a little water and sugar, and simmer until you have mush. Add more sugar to taste.

Ok - sorry for assuming, I guess a pan will do the job We usually use cooking apples, I'm sure it will turn out fine!

titania, when i make home made apple sauce, i too usually use bramley, but, i find that if i use normal eating apples they don't tend to need any sugar.

I find that eating apples hold their shape more, so it is hard to get them to mush with just the simmering. You have to actively purée them.

how long would you say it takes for them to cook down? ive got 45 minutes til dinner......

15-20 minutes ish - depends how small you make the pieces.
