Chocolate Fridge Cake - Do you use eggs?

I've found an old recipe for Chocolate Fridge Cake which includes 2 Eggs in the recipe. Is that usual? The eggs don't get cooked - just added to the melted chocolate. Makes it rich to each I expect.

No, never heard of a recipe like that!

just dug out my fab Jamie Oliver recipe and no eggs in that.

Hmm, may give it a go...
For those interested the full recipe I found (from an early 1980's school cook book) is:

1/2 lb melted plain chocolate
1/2 lb melted margarine
2 eggs
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 lb roughly broken biscuits
Chopped nuts and cherries

Lightly beat the eggs and add the sugar, margarine and chocolate. Beat again.
Add the biscuits and other ingredients making sure the mixture is not too runny.
Set in a deep tin, lined or greased.
Place in fridge to set. Cut into pieces, making them quite small as they are quite rich.

Recipe Author: Mrs Lucking
Date: Unknown - probably around 1980-1985

Well make sure you keep posting somewhere so we know you are allright.
Are you goig to give it to any DCs? I waver between not letting them near a raw egg and then letting them lick the cake mixing spoons.

I made something the other day and it used raw eggs. The kdis ate it and all are okay which is lucky as I had forgotten it had a raw egg in it!

Wasn't planning on letting children have it... but when you think about it - they do lick the spoon when making cakes!

FSA seem to advise using Pasteurised Egg, not raw egg. Do you think my local Budgens sells Pasteurised Egg?

No, I don't use eggs in mine. And it's quite rich enough without them LOL!

Given that they aren't necessary, I'd probably avoid using them.

(But I do let them lick cake mix bowls, so am probably being irrational!)

I don't -I use golden syrup, butter and cocoa powder ( all melted) then biscuits, fruit , cherries rasins or whatever.

I've ended up not using Egg, have substituted Raisins for the Nuts. Seems rather sloppy... hope it sets.
