Too long in the freezer?

I found two portions of home-made cottage pie in a tub in the freezer. They've been there since before Christmas, definitely. I tend to assume that anything in a freezer is good indefinitely. Is this true?

I would think they'd be fine for at least six months.

Yay, good, thank you! It was good cottage pie if I remember correctly...

Enjoy it! It will probably taste even better for being in the freezer for a few months - it seems to bring the flavour out.

There was an article in the Times about how we all underestimate how long food can be left in the freezer - it remains safe for ages but the quality of the food can be impaired - see here.

Thanks ECMR, I'm definitely freezing my lime slices for gin and tonic now.
