Deep fat fryer recommendations

DH really wants a deep fat fryer (I don't BTW) but it's his birthday and I thought I'd indulge him! Which is the best?

I've recently bought a proper chip pan, we don't eat chips very often and that way I just empty the oil and can use the pan for other things.

I've had 2 deep fat fryers in 2 years, one cheap and one expensive one, and both have broken within that time, in my opinion they aren't designed very well. The handles kept breaking on mine, they are a pain to clean and take up room on a workspace.
