Slow cooker - completely confused

Hi,

Please could I have some advice on choosing a slow cooker?

I have been reading lots of reviews on Amazon and am now totally confused as for all the models some people say they are fantastic and other people say that they are rubbish.

Firstly I have no idea what capacity I need. I want to be able to use it to cook joints of meat, probably a whole chicken, so I guess a oval one is what I am looking for. Is 3.5L too small for that?

The 6.5L say that they are for 6-8 people and there are only 4 of us (including 2 toddlers). I read somewhere that if it is too big and you dont fill it up properly it wont work properly. Is that true?

thanks,
Abubu x

I am probably not the best person to answer this as I bought one as an impulse buy in Tesco a couple of weeks ago for £12.00 without doing any research etc. I think it is a 3.5l model which is fine for the 3 of us but I am not sure you would fit a whole chicken in it without a little bit of a squash! For daily use 3.5l is more than big enough - I do batch cooks in it for the freezer!

I have a large one , and always do enough for 6-8 people even though we a family of 4 with 2 prescoolers.
The other half freezes well and is great for when you need a quick homemade meal
