.... so bland!! It was from DS's new cook book for boys. I should have known based on the ingredients (fish plus king prawns plus spring onions mixed with marscapone cheese for the base and then mash on top) but DS was so excited to get allthe bits in and actually make it himself I jiust went with the flow.
We had it last night. DD turned her nose up straight away, DS ate some of it because he flet he should and I ate mine out of politeness, But it was so bland and tasteless. But the worst of it is, I have loads left!!!! What can I do with it without wasting all that fresh fish and prawns etc? Any ideas gratefully received.

TIA

Could you take the top off and make it spicy? A sort of fish curry?

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 20:28

take top off, stir in some cooked smoked fish (or smoked salmon), heat throgh, season with lots of black pepper and add grated cheese; mash back on, cheese on top.

turn it into fishcakes?

mckenzie · 01/02/2009 20:53

thank you - I knew I could rely on you .
I'm going to go for the fish cakes option and then put them in the freezer. Next week when we have forgotten about the fish pie disappointment I can get them out and try again. I'll add some more veg and some pepper/spices but I was nervous about adding more cheese as it's got so much marscapone cheese in it.
What do you think? And should I add breadcrumbs if I want to make it into fishcakes?

Add some grated red leicester/mature cheddar, marscapone is too mild so there isn't much flavour. Just mould them into the right shape then roll/cover them in breadcrumbs. This should do it.

okay, fish cakes made and in the freezer. One question please. When we're ready to eat them can I just defrost and put in the oven? I just added sweetcorn, cheese, some fresh basil and black pepper. TIA
