How do you make really thick icing,

every time I make it it tastes ok but looks awful. help please

do you mean with icing sugar and water?

Butter cream icing is often thicker.

With icing sugar/water add the liquid very slowly and use as little liquid as possible for thicker icing.

You can get ready to use icing as well I think.

use double icing sugar to butter, so 3 oz butter, 6oz icing sugar.

beat butter/marg to soften, stir in icing sugar with a fork, can add few drops vanilla essence/lemon or orange juice/cocoa to flavour. may need a little milk to thin, just a tsp or so. HTH

if you want to make this look nice, you can pipe it onto cakes - star nozzle all over can look nice. Or, just smooth all over cake with palette knife, can use fork to make lnes in it - I often do concentric circles all over the top of a sponge
