Because I don't have any.

I have potatoes, milk, cheese, onion and garlic. How would I make it with these ingrediants and would it be thin and yukky?!

Thanks

I would sprinkle a bit of flour in between each layer and add a little milk. It should thicken up.

you can make it with stock can't you?

princessmel · 01/02/2009 13:07

not sure exactly .. think my mum used to do it that way. Probably just layered potatoes, onions, etc with some stock poured over .... Its a different dish really though I suppose.

Make a cheese saucse and pour that over. That would be lovely.

With stock, onions, and herbs it's pommes boulangere.

I would say no, you're not going to be able to approximate dauphinoise without cream of some sort, do something else.

thats the one snigger! I didn't think I was imagining it!

I usually do pommes boulangere - buttered dish with garlic rubbed round, half or quarter onion chopped small and sauted until soft, add milk and a little stock (or milk with half a stock cube/tsp granules) and heat to a simmer. Pour this over the sliced potatoes and top with specks of butter. Bake in oven until potatoes are soft. In fact, I shall do this with my roast lamb tonight.
