Where (other than ebay) can I get a replacement pestle?

I have one like this but when we were having our kitchen redone we lost the pestle. I'm having trouble finding a replacement. Any ideas?

The reason I say other than ebay is because I've already had a look and I can't seem to find any on there.

my mum thinks she bought dp a mortar and pestle like that for his birthday.

But it was only a mortar, not a pestle.

So I'm just going to lurk on your thread for a bit to see what everyone comes up with - I couldn't find anything on ebay either.

oops! I've been using the end of a wooden rolling pin squonk, but I'd like to be able to give my spices a good bashing sometimes

we are currently using our old wooden one, but it doesn't match....

I broke my pestle by dropping it on the kitchen floor. Not sure what it was made of but looked like marble/granite. I went to a shop that sold the same kind of pestle and mortar and they agreed to sell me a pestle on its own. It was an independent kitchen shop not a chain which might have made a difference...

I then dropped the new one the first time I used it and broke that one too! Was too embarrassed to go back to the same shop so am still using a broken pestle almost 10 years on.

contact the HO of the shop and explain? they might take pity on you, esepcially if you tell them how much you really loved their product..?

It was a wedding present from John Lewis I think. Do you think if I ring up John Lewis and beg them they'd sell me a pestle? Even if my wedding was nearly 4 years ago? That might be pushing it a bit too far surely?

what do you have to lose?! go on, maybe they will know if the manufacturere supplies anywhere else if they no longer have them themselves?

cuppachar · 30/01/2009 16:04

worth a try - and John Lewis usually do free delivery too.

cuppachar · 30/01/2009 16:06

looks like John Lewis still sell the same type, though they're out of stock at the moment: www.johnlewis.com/230133787/Product.aspx

I've always found JL really good on customer service / returns etc so I reckon you've got a good chance.

HeadFairy · 30/01/2009 16:09

just spoken to john lewis and Peter Jones (nearest John Lewis branch) and they don't sell them seperately.... the search continues.

poo for JL - thought they would be anxious to keep a loyal customer?

HeadFairy · 30/01/2009 16:14

The chap was lovely and terribly apologetic, so I still heart them.... just a shame they couldn't help in this case.

Squonk, and everyone else looking for replacement pestles - apparently Robert Dyas sell them individually. I can't see them on the website, but the nice man at John Lewis seemed to think they might do. Worth checking out next time you're passing one perhaps?

ah, super, HF, thanks very much.

off to google them and see if there's one near me...

cuppachar · 30/01/2009 16:33

Do you have an independent kitchen shop near you? The one I went to was in Ealing and was quite small but happened to have the type I was looking for. You could always phone ahead if you know the brand?

HeadFairy · 30/01/2009 16:36

I do cuppachar... they're awfully posh and slightly sneery in there, but I might just gather up my dignity and go and ask them.

fryalot · 30/01/2009 16:41

oh.

It appears that my nearest store is 156 miles away.

I don't want one that much

HeadFairy · 30/01/2009 16:44

Oh, back to the rolling pin it is then!
