buy readymade

225g flour plain
pinch of salt
125g butter cut in to small bits
45-60ml cold milk 4-5 table spoons

rub the dry ingrediants together with the butter untill it looks like breadcrumbs srinkle on the milk ang mix together preferably with a metal blade bring it all together into a ball knead untill smooth on a floured surface dont over work it if it seems to g like elastic rap it in cling film and put in the fridge for half an hour (i do this anyway to be on the safe side)

iv always used this recipe its really easy and its always worked for me
the stuff in packets are good but home made is always nicer

MrsBadger,

Could I ask why now is not the time?

you have never made it before
and you need it for an important recipe
in a short timeframe

ti destined to go wrong

learn to make pastry at your leisure, not when, (eg) if it goes wrong, the almond slices won;t get made and there will be no cake to take to the school fete and all the other mothers will give you death stares and your child will be a social pariah etc etc

Ahhhhhhh right lol. Alas, I am making them for us and not the school etc.

Since money has become tight, I've started doing alot more baking at home, you seem to get far more for your money.

I'm going to make some peanut butter bread tomorrow as well.
