Why can't I buy courgettes at the moment? In the last few days I have tried 3 different supermarkets and they have been marked as out of stock.

It's a bad year? Dad was muttering about his soil the other day.

this is the first week since about October that i have;t had any in teh veg box (i get a fortnightly box) and i was really pleased!

TartanPussyCat · 30/01/2009 14:22

I thought it was just me who was having this problem, I haven't been able to get any for DAYS! (courgettes that is)

All out of stock in NE Scotland as far as I can tell...

fishie · 30/01/2009 14:25

because it is winter and they aren't growing. there is something cringingly termed 'the hungry gap'.

do you really eat the same veg all year round?

whitenoise · 30/01/2009 14:26

I remember when seasonal fruit and veg used to be cheaper at the shops when it was its proper season and it was BRITISH fruit and veg too! (and i am 27 so not a great deal of years ago either!) what happened to all that?!

Claire2301 · 30/01/2009 14:29

Uncle has a fruit and veg shop - they are in very short supply at the moment. Normally come from Spain/S.Italy and Northern Africa but it has been a horrendous year for them weather wise. With the supermarkets it will depend on who/where the supplier is. However the independent shops are really struggling.

WE tried to grow our own this year, got about 3 tiddly ones.
The year DS1 was born we had a bumper crop, so must be the weather (not that we are crap gardeners ).

JackBauer · 30/01/2009 14:34

I just wondered as, once peeled and grated, they hide in scrambled eggs really well

I dont eat them all year but I love them so was just curious!
