Might be a bit far, but if you are out for day anyway there is The Allan Water Cafe in Bridge of Allan. Traditional fish & chips in cafe style restaurant plus homemade icecream too.

I have just been checking my copy of "Scotland The Best" and they recommend Caffe Piccante, top of Broughton Street, nr Playhouse Theatre - they even do deep fried Mars bars and chips (Mmmmm)

The Tail End is fab - lovely fresh fish, friendly staff.

Btw - can 2nd Allanwater Cafe - I live near it and we get fish and chips from there regularly - the sit-in area is lovely too!

I'll third Allanwater Cafe - used to live in BofA - now live in Kent and miss the fish and chips - not the same here! Also the ice cream is to die for!
