I use the Sainsburys basic white table wine for cooking risotto with. It doesn't stop me draining the bottle when I've cooked it though...

Asda do an Australian White, I think, which is fine.

I've often heard that 'don't cook with it if you wouldn't drink it' thing but it's no longer true I don' thtink - these days most cheap own-brand wines are blends (ie middle of the road and uninteresting but dependable, rather than vinegary shite) so it won't affect the taste of the food.
