I just made Nigella's chocolate fudge cake (yum) and decorated with sugar animals as DD wasn't eating it anyway.
Sorry, that's no use to you but perhaps someone will be along with some ideas soon.

Hi - I got a great recipe from the BBC food website for a victoria sandwich cake. I then made 2 of them and me and DH cut them into a Peter Rabbit shape and used soft icing for fur and roll out icing for the jacket. My DS who was 1 clearly was neither here nor there about the cake but we had fun doing it.......I had never made that sort of cake before or used icing before so it can be done ! although like complete PFB parents we were up til past midnight finishing it off ! and I don't want to think about what it cost to buy all the stuff for it !

Check out my profile - I did the ladybird cake for dd's first birthday. It's really easy! (Ignore the other cakes, they weren't easy at all and took me bloody hours!!!)
