Monster cake???

My DS (turns 3 in April - but no 2 arrives late Feb so planning ahead) has announced he wants a "monster cake" at his birthday party in April... I am about as far from a domestic goddess as you can get. Any of you clever MNers have any idea where I can buy a monster cake from (we're based in London) or find an idiot-proof recipe I could attempt to follow???

I like making cakes but I can't do very fancy stuff! I would make a round sponge cake, cover it with green butter icing, stick a load of red laces (the sweets) for hair, make wonky monster teeth with broken chocolate fingers (white and milk choc ones probably) then ice on some eyes (or make them out of sweets) and bob would be your rather amateurish looking but tasty uncle.

Oh and make cake a few days before and freeze it then whip it out the night before you need it and ice it frozen to get less crumbling and crumbs in the icing.

I made a witch cake for DS1 last year which would be similar to what you want - and similar to what chugtastic has said. Just stick with the face of a monster and use lots of sweets - liquorice allsorts always good for this sort of thing.

Good luck - I love doing this sort of thing

good tip re the freezing - will try that next time

Thanks guys - Chugtastic, ingenious idea for the monster teeth!
