HecateQueenOfGhosts · 24/01/2009 19:23

add them to gin or vodka or bacardi?

Lemons - Make Lemon Drizzle Cake

Limes - Have some G&T's with big chunks of limes in.

3 lemons and 2 limes sounds like a normal amount just to have hanging around to me! both are good in salad dressing (both zest and juice), as part of a marinade, to squeeze on fish, use in baking, add to drinks etc. You can store the slightly squeezed fruit in the fridge if you don't use them all up.

If you have some white rum in the house you could use the limes to make a couple of caipirinhas (wash limes, cut in roughly eighths, mash with sugar, add rum and crushed ice (ice cubes fine too). Divine!

I use lemon or lime juice to marinade various meats.

Fillet steak, marinaded with olive oil, lemon juice and black pepper

Chicken or salmon, marinaded with sesame oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, five spice powder, garlic and ginger

A good juggling act?

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 19:44

Oh dear, this won't go the same way as the Mangoes thread I hope!

Slice and use in drinks?

what is the mango thread, msb? this is the second time i have heard it mentioned and it means nothing to me. I am clearly not on MN enough!

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 20:29

I was not there for the thread either harpo, but heard about it subsequently - see here

MaureenMLove · 24/01/2009 20:31

Oh, oh, I must be an oldie! I remember the Mango thread!

Anyway, if you get some mascapone and some ginger biscuits you could make a lime cheese cake. Little prep and big taste!

liath · 24/01/2009 20:33

Slice them and put in the freezer for G&Ts.

MrsWalton · 24/01/2009 20:44

Oh so worth wasting three lemons and two limes for the laugh just had at mango thread.

Thanks.

Off to juggle and then clean the microwave.

I cut them into 8ths and freeze -then you don't need to add ice to drinks either

Lemon and Lime curd using my microwave lemon curd recipe:

Microwave Lemon Curd:

Am assuming a 750 watt microwave, amend accordingly.

Ingredients
Grated rind and juice of 4 lemons (or in your case 3 lemons and 2 limes)
100 g butter, diced
450 g caster sugar
4 eggs, beaten

Method
Mix together lemon and lime juice, rind, butter and in a pyrex-type glass bowl. Cook on high for about 4 minutes until butter has melted. Give it a stir and then stir in the eggs.

Cook on high for 5 - 7 minutes
Stop and whisk every minute
Do not overcook or you will make egg toffee hmm
When the curd coats the back of a spoon then it is ready

Cool for 5 miutes, whisking every minute then pot into sterile jars.

Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Om nom nom.

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 24/01/2009 21:00

squeeze limes and lemons
add sugar to taste (I put 2 teaspoon per lemon/lime, possibly more if giving to children OR you can use honey)
add water (about 1/2 pint per lemon/lime)

stir until sugar dissolves

add ice

volia citron presse (still lemonade) or in this case still lemon and limeade

I often make this fir myself with one lemon, 2 spoons of sugar and top up with water....it's just like m&S still lemonade.
