Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc.....

...hardly ever see the stuff, delicious though it is.

....and then it turns up somewhere unexpected.

CHAVSDA

...a whole rack full of the stuff. Spotted by the Feral Urchin, with untold glee. After some jumping on the spot and clapping (by me) ten bottles were selected. These were conveyed (six bottles in my basket, plus one hand-held per urchin) to the '20 items or less' self service checkout. There a bemused operative confirmed that I was indeed over 18, though possibly certifiable.

(as an aside, my Asperger's 11 year old pointed out that the sign should read '20 items or fewer'. I was so proud I could have wept...)

..so beware. For the next few weeks incomprehensible and/or inappropriate posts from me are likely to appear at about, say, 11pm.

...and no. I haven't opened a bottle yet...

Yes I've seen more of it recently so there must have been a sudden influx as it hasn't been available for ages.

ThumbBurns · 22/01/2009 23:44

am at even the lower price of the bottles - am not a wine pleb as such but we do have a top limit of £10 per bottle and that's only for special occasions - we mostly have to buy anything on special offer that brings it to around the £5 or £6 mark

Am also dead of you RG2 - but am thinking your 10 bottles aren't going to last very long if you are having a bottle a night, now are they!!

retiredgoth2 · 22/01/2009 23:49

....I realised after I posted that I might sound a bit like Nicholas Soames (or equivalent) banging on about expensive wine whilst some posters struggle to feed their children...

It is REALLY nice, though....

no no, am still dead of you but wouldn't think anything of it - just wish we weren't so tight careful sometimes!
I saw the most beautiful bottle of Pinot Grigio in an Italian Deli today - the bottle is deep blue and a very odd shape and cost £19.99 - couldn't persuade DH that it was worth it just for the bottle!

luvaduck · 25/01/2009 15:45

thanks so much for this - just bought 4 bottles in longwell green (they didn't have it in the one near to southville)

bought 6 bottles at majestic 3 months ago at 17.99 each so this was a bargain

delish!!!

by the way have you tried vicars choice by saint clair sauv blanc (also marlborough NZ) - it has been rated higher then cloudy bay and is just gorgeous - but doesn't have the name so is cheaper

zanz1bar · 25/01/2009 20:36

i havent had cloudy bay for years and years.
i used to work for a certain wine merchant on the east coast and once spent all afternoon -drinking-tasting the complete range.
i left little hampstead by the sea and had to start buying the stuff myself.

God it was good!

luvaduck · 25/01/2009 20:39

Where is little hampstead by the sea?

Mooseheart · 25/01/2009 20:43

Thanks for the recommendation luvaduck - I didn't make it to Longwell Green the other day - it's a bit of a trek for me. But have just found Vicar's Choice on the Majestic website and it's on offer... Is it really as good/better than Cloudy Bay?

Mooseheart · 25/01/2009 20:45

Oh, just seen it's not Vicars Choice but is made by St Clair. May give those lovely helpful peeps at Majestic a call to find out a bit more about it!
