Dh has just explained that he has bought some pork to do a casserole with during the week in the slow cooker!

I have never made a casserole out of pork before let alone a slow cooked one!

Without me looking stupid or trying to look for fault in his buying food for the week -

Any ideas?

Could you bung a bottle of cider in there, some veg, and hey presto pork and apple hot pot?

mynaughtylittlesister · 17/01/2009 23:21

we both love cider!!!!![BLUSH] Can you cook it in a slow cooker though?

Thanks for the idea!

Pork is great cooked in cider with onions, mushrooms, and veg.

Or, you could do it with soy sauce, sherry, garlic and ginger (fresh root)topped up with water and cooked till really tender, serve with rice and stir fried veg. I use about 4 tablespoons each of soy sauce (light) and sherry (the cheapest is fine for cooking). Then cover with water to keep it moist. You can reduce it down once all cooked.

ooh, pork will be lovely and tender and moist done in a slow cooker

I always think of beef or chicken casserole, never pork!

Think I will look forward now to a slow cooked casserole of pork, cider and of course vegetables!

thanks

Southwest... Apples and pork, no brainer. Crushed cloves to spice it up is nice. but slow roasted with them their apples is a treat

EachPeachPearMum · 17/01/2009 23:28

or you could use beans- pork and beans and tomato based casserole is nice

mynaughtylittlesister · 17/01/2009 23:29

Do you mean baked beans? or other types?

Pork hotpot MMMMM....
Pork, Sausages, onions, any root veg (potatoes swede carrots etc), mmmmmm....

SoMuchToBits · 17/01/2009 23:41

I would do it with onions, garlic, mushrooms, apples and either cider or white wine. Oh, and sage. Yum!!

EachPeachPearMum · 17/01/2009 23:47

Sorry- meant haricots or butter beans -both are nice!

mynaughtylittlesister · 17/01/2009 23:55

Arrrhh! Other type of beans- thanks will try and get some of those in!

Do you cook the sausages first?

onadietcokebreak · 17/01/2009 23:59

I would brown sausages off as they are nicer if you do so.

mynaughtylittlesister · 18/01/2009 00:02

Hadn't thought about the colour! Was a bit worried about the fat that came out of them! Maybe a bit of both would be good!

you can prick the sausages as youre browning them to get rid of some of the fat, or just buy a better quality sausage (diff in these times i know)

lessonlearned · 18/01/2009 00:28

The fat adds to the flavour mmmmm....
