I hate mealtimes

Today I made meatloaf. We had it with boiled potatoes and brocolli. For pudding I made individual trifles with raspberries.
DD1- 'oh no meatloaf' sinks head into arms, sits almost crying and eating nothing through main course.
DD2- 'I don't like this stuff' eats a potato.
DD3- eats brocolli.

Trifle:
DD1-eats cream but asks for extra sprinkles half way through.
DD3-Eats some of it, spits some out back into bowl, eats some more with extra sprinkles.
DD2- Sets to with gusto and then gets a sprinkle stuck between her teeth and cries at full blast through the rest of the meal. Will not let me have a look in her mouth.

Why do I bother? Why Why Why.

that's why I reach for the fishfingers instead of cooking

Oh grim grim grim. Lots of sympathy. I take it as personal rejection when people reject my lovingly cooked food.

Can you get them to help menu plan? Or even cook with you? That way they may get an idea of how it feels to be on your side of things?

PS you can come round here and make us some individual trifles!!!

pushchair · 14/01/2009 21:25

Yes I do too but get sick of fish fingers.

shame

little horrors - when they are mothers, and you're a granny, you'll get your revenge, i'm sure

twoluvlykids · 14/01/2009 21:26

btw, do you put cake and jelly in your trifles?

pushchair · 14/01/2009 21:27

Yeah I'll be 70 odd. Hopefully incontinent and move in with one, preferably DD1

Sponge fingers, tinned raspberries, NO jelly. Copious sherry in mine obviously

Mine are the same. The only one who eats everything is my 2 yr old and I am expecting her to join the mutiny imminently. I often wish they had a pill substitute to give to children like mine.

pushchair · 14/01/2009 21:35

I know I'm pre-menstrual but just feel like crying/screaming sometimes. Often avoid eating with them now because I can't stand it. Mealtimes just upsetting and I end up bolting my food and escaping to the kitchen.

Oh god, join the club. I am currently sat at lap top in an attempt to cool down after an hour of trying to get 2 year old to table to eat the only thing he likes (or at least used to like) - pasta. If that one is now a no winner - I'm totally screwed!

joyfuleyes · 18/01/2009 19:48

I'm in the club too.

My 8yo is much better than she used to be (a diet of pasta & cereal now will eat chicken, fish, salad, some vegetables etc), but tonight just to be a PITA she decided she no longer like salmon (news to me).

My 2yo (BLW, would eat anything until 3 months ago when he began refusing things) will now only eat toast, peanut butter, cereal, fish fingers & very occasionally (i.e. not for the last week) pasta & pesto. The only fruit substance he will go near is apple juice

I'm so bloody sick of it

constancereader · 18/01/2009 19:54

I can empathise. The list of things my ds will eat gets shorter by the day. I have been close to throwing the food against the wall .
