When ever I find a recipe that sounds promising, it turns out disapointing.

ooh yes, this one - the famous Neiman Marcus cookie recipe (sorry it's in American so conversion charts may be required):

NEIMAN MARCUS COOKIES
2 cups butter
4 cups flour
2 tsp. soda
2 cups sugar
5 cups blended oatmeal (I use Readybrek - it makes the cookies lovely & chewy)
24 oz. chocolate chips
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 - 8 oz. Hershey Bar (Cadbury's so much nicer!) (grated)
4 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups chopped nuts (your choice, but pecans or macadamia nuts fantastic)

Cream the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla; mix together with flour,
oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add chocolate chips, Hershey Bar and nuts.

Roll into balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 112 (!!) cookies. (Recipe may be halved)

Only 112 ...they will last me a day then

OK, always forget this one, in a US recipe does "flour" mean plain or self raising? And any particular sort of brown sugar? I'm guessing soft light brown?

I'm going to use plain flour.

I'm presuming soda is baking soda.

Plain flour.
I use light muscovado brown sugar (and golden caster sugar for the 'sugar'.)
Soda = bicarb.
Vanilla = essence.

We made Nigella's chocolate biscuits these ones over xmas and they were lovely. Actually we didn't get time to do the topping, they were scoffed as soon as cool enough to pick up, really easy too.

choc chip cookies - DH reckons theyre as good as shop bought.

280g plain flour
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon fine salt
170g unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
220g light brown sugar
100g granulated white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
250g milk chocolate chips
Preheat the oven to 165C

Sift together flour, bicaronate of soda and salt.

Stir together melted butter, brown sugar, sugar and vanilla. Add egg, then the yolk. Beat well to ensure that egg is evenly distributed. Stir in dry ingredients, then fold in chocolate chips until incorporated.

Drop 1/4 cup sized golf ball shaped and slightly flattened mounds of dough onto a greased baking sheet.

Bake in preheated oven for approximately 15-16 minutes or only until the edges begin to turn golden. (They'll look and feel underdone but they're ready - every time ive made them im convinced ive got them out too early...i havent! .)

Well, I have made PrincessButtercups NEIMAN MARCUS COOKIES, and they are very good. I used oats, so of course they are very oaty, and I would like them a bit gooier in the middle, so next time I shall put them in a hotter oven, maybe.

I shall hopfully make Chipos recipe on Saturday, so will report back sometime this weekend.

I make cookies quite a bit.Dd1 wanted a huge birthday cookie like the Millie's ones and it turned out superb.

125g butter
70g golden granulated sugar
50g light muscovado sugar
half tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
150g plain flour
150 choc chips or chunks

Cream - add egg and vanilla - fold in flour (do not overwork) - lightly mix in choc chips. Cook at 190C for 9 mins-ish. Do not over cook, slightly golden to ensure softness in middle.

SImple and delicious.

Oi! Pointydog! I just tried your recipe and it is too cakey! The cookies were indeniably tastey, but not what I'm looking for.

ah, ok. yes, they are soft and the mixture spreads a bit but that's waht gives them the soft slightly chewy centre like Millie's, no?

Can't take the credit, got the recipe off some on here. They are yum though.

I don't have any recipe's, but I'm sure to get the gooeyness you have to use a recipe that has oil in.

Oh this just isnt fair...im doing weight watchers and I love Millies cookies, im going to have to hide this thread.

Melting the butter made a big difference.(I might experiment with oil next) At first I thought Chipos recipe was a bit sloppy, so cooked them in batches, adding more flour each time, but the original recipe was definately the best.

Hi LynetteScarvo/Chipo, just wondering about the 1/4 cup sized golf balls are these really made with 4 tbsps/60ml??? Sorry just sounds huge! How many does recipe make? Hoping to make lolly version for my dd birthday : )

I looked for recipe like millie cookies four years ago, and after trying a few, this is the closest i found. The only thing is, they need to be eaten the day they are made!!!! Made fresh, they are just like millies cookies, i think it is the golden syrup in them that makes them a bit gooey!
Be-Ro Recipe:
4 oz soft marg (something like Stork)
3 oz soft light brown sugar
2 tbsp syrup
6 oz self raising flour
4 oz choc chips
2 tbsp milk

heat oven 180 degrees c
2 baking sheets

Beat marg until really soft, then add sugar and cream until pale and fluffy. Stir in everything else and mix well. Scoop out spoonfuls onto tray and, place in middle of oven, bake for 8-10 mins. Don't overcook! Remove from tray straight away and cool on wire rack. makes approx 18. EAT ON DAY THEY ARE MADE :) enjoy!

....oh, and you probably already know this, but to help get the syrup of your measuring spoon, dip it in boiling water before you scoop out the syrup and it will slip right off :)

Those recipes sound amazing, I am off to try the first one.
I've got a right big thing about oatmeal and raisin cookies at the minute, but all the recipes I've tried have turned out too biscuity if you know what I mean- crisp rather than gooey. And they never seem to have enough oatmeal in them for my liking. What am I doing wrong?
