I have used both and prefer Sainsbury's but I think it depends what the store is like - staff etc.

Tescos once sent me 8 pints of milk at 10pm with a date of that day. When I pohoned to complain, I was told to pop in and they would give me a replacement.

Errr... duh, I do online shopping so I don't have to "pop in" - especially at 10pm when I need milk for breakfast

Sainsdbury's have been 10 minutes late a couple of times and given me £10 off the next week's shopping which I think is pretty good customer service.

I prefer Sainsbury's but use Tesco more because of the points.

One of the drivers from Sainsbury's has on a couple of occasions (because I have not shopped with them for a while) has given me a £10 voucher just for the hell of it, which was really nice of him.

Last Easter, I ordered stuff for a dinner and when I unpacked it, although some of the stuff was still in date, it was badly packed and therefore got squashed raspberries and some other fruits, also some of the meat was use by that day. Within half an hour of a phone call, someone from the office brought new stuff out to me again and gave me x2 of everything because I had been inconvenienced.

With Tesco, they just say they will refund you but obviously you do an online shop for a reason and don't want to have to go to the store.

Ocado have just started delivering in our area and I have tried them twice. They are lovely, but do not seem to do many "basics" and I found them a bit more expensive - although that is not to say I won't use them now and again.

Sainsburys every time, I always online shop there but online shop in tesco for my mum and I still prefer sainsburys for the following reasons

better choice
easier site
all the food has pictures so you know youre getting what you want
delivery is often cheaper (depending on day of week)
delivery times are more specific
their customer service is excellent
drivers are lovely

Just put my current sainsbos order (£125)into MySupermarket.com and it came out the cheapest, Tesco £10 more, Adsa £12 more and it was pretty much a basics shop with nappies, wipes & SMA accounting for £60 worth.

Thanks for the tip KidsrUs.

this is all v helpful thank you very much. I think I will try to set up a Sainsburys online account, I already have a reward card so I hope that will make it easier. Thanks everyone.

There's lots of negativity on Tesco here but there was a thread a while back where it came out that it seems to depend on which Tesco you land up ordering from.

I've never had a problem with Tesco at all, except that occassionally they don't have fairly basic things that I want. But it's never too serious. They're always prompt and I find the expiry date issue isn't an issue.

And the benefit of Tesco is that you get extra points too which is brilliant.

bigTillyMint · 12/01/2009 10:41

OhBling, I agree - Tesco is generally fine for expiry dates and substitutes usually. And the drivers are really polite and helpful here.

Maybe the quality of service depends on where you live?

Lauriefairycake · 12/01/2009 10:46

I genuinely think that with proper meal planning and without all the trips to the supermarket for just 'one' item (when you come out with a bagful of crap) Ocado is not really dearer than the others.

And I hate giving my money to Tesco.

(Sainsburys good but I go there to shop, never used their delivery service)

OhBling · 12/01/2009 11:20

I've always preferred Tesco to Ocado because the cleaning stuff etc was cheaper but I've just done a quick check and it seems Ocado is doing a better job of being more in line - with lots of Tesco price matching which is good.

mrstimlovejoy · 12/01/2009 11:44

i've been looking to save money so went on mysupermarket
for my weekly shop
tesco £69.36
asda £66.00
ocado £86.22
sainsburys £51.63
will do a sainsburys shop on line this week.have used asda and tesco.asda fine apart from a couple of items with short dates but rang up and got a refund.tesco were useless, arrived over an hour late and stuff missing which i'd been charged for [did get refund after ages on the phone].

MadameCastafiore · 12/01/2009 11:46

Ocado - if you get the late night free deliveries it doesn;t work out more expensive and we have found that their veg and fruit lasts a lot longer so you don;t waste money chucking stuff away.

If you meal plan you can get away with shopping there.

naswm · 12/01/2009 18:42

sounds like mayb I wont save that much by going elsewhere... I just thought I ought to investigate though
