poached egg or egg and bacon
butter and marmalade
butter and marmite (my favourite)

anything you put on toast I suppose would be fine - beans, melted cheese etc

How do you poach an egg?

scrambled egg is nice and easier than poaching if you don't have a poaching pan.
They make it so simple.
my DD loves them with jam on or cooked like french toast.

You don't need a poaching pan.

We have just had corn beef hash with poached eggs on top.

Heat some water up in a pan, add some vinegar.

Break an egg into a cup.

When water comes to the boil, stick a spoon in and swirl it round, then plop the egg in gently from the cup - it will still swirl for a few seconds, this helps to keep the shape.

Keep it on the gas for a couple of minutes or just take it off for longer and it will continue to cook (this method will take around 4 mins to give you a nice yokey egg).

Use a slotted spoon to take out, I just rest it then on top of a bit of kitchen paper that soaks up any excess water.

Hey presto, poached eggs.

Grilled cheese. Loads nicer than cheese on toast- which is also lovely!
Butter and honey is also good.
Basically anything I put on bread or toast.
Here are Delia's poached egg instructions
Near the bottom of this recipe is Jamie's much easier version!

nutella

bellavita · 10/01/2009 18:10

that is a banned substance in our house MAS

I have been known to eat from the jar with my head in the cupboard pretending to look for something!

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/01/2009 18:20

no one else likes it but me...we have six nice drinking glasses in our cupboard as a result of my passion...

bellavita · 10/01/2009 18:24

I would say more of a "fetish" MAS than a "passion" !!

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/01/2009 18:25

!

ThornyRose · 10/01/2009 18:33

I heart nutella - which is why it is also a forbidden substance in our house!

Great suggestions, thank you

And I think I'll have a go at poaching eggs Jamie style!

the warm toasty muffins help the nutella melt a bit in this cold weather - I've had a job trying to get it onto crackers

Kbear · 10/01/2009 18:41

I make poached eggs in a mug in the microwave - not poached at all but same result! Put small amount of butter in the mug, 10 seconds in the microwave until it's melted, swirl it round the bottom inch of the sides of the mug. Crack the egg into the mug and microwave on low power until the white is white and solid and the yolk is how you like it, runny or hard.

Easy
