Adding red lentil to meat chilli help!

Just made a chilli with mince, bought some red lentils this week to bulk meals out so what quantity of lentils and what do i do with them just add them in or soak them first?
Don't laugh really novice with Lentils.

I wanted to ask the same for shepherd's pie and I do cook alot and I should know. You don't need to soak lentils first - what type do you have. I find red lentils break down the most in cooking.

give them a quick rinse and chuck in a handful - no need to soak them first
