Portable dish (fish?) to feed 6 on NYE & red cabbage

I am taking the main course (or the main part of the main course) to our NYE meal with friends and want to make red cabbage (think I saw a recipe here somewhere) but need ideas for fish - what to cook / how to cook. It has to be something I can either cook there quickly or take with us (only a 5 minute drive)

Any cheese ideas for dessert would be good - I know nothing about cheese.

Thanks
MM

fish pie is easily portable and reheats nicely,
I like mash with red cabbage

a decent cheddar, stilton or other blue, brie or camembert or other mild soft cheese, goats cheese plus whatever you really like

or you could do all British cheeses if you have got a good cheesemonger nearby they would have the variety and advice

These are really nice. You could make them at home and then pop them in the oven when you get there. Not sure how well it would go with red cabbage though - although I'm sure it would be fine depends on what's in the recipe.
