Okay. Relax - it's easy. Break the cake up into a dish. You can sandwich the little pieces together with raspberry jam to mositen it without booze. Tip over a punnet of raspberries. Pour over a tub of fresh custard. Let it sit for a bit. Top with whipped cream.

put the cake bits at the bottom of the dish. add some tinned fruit, eg mandarins. some people then make some jelly to add to it, I don't. If you do, let it set, then add custard (out of a tin is fine if you don't fancy/have time for home made). let that stand for a while, put in fridge. lastly, whip up some cream - double or whipping - till it holds its shape but not too stiff. add to the top of the custard, sprinkle with 100s & 1000s if you've got them.

reminds me, I haven't made 1 yet, oh well, maybe for New Year....

Easy enough if you just buy the ready made custard and instant jelly. Can't help you with the home made stuff. Put the cake in the bottom of a glass bowl. Would normally be soaked with booze but you could use a little fruit juice. Then put soft fruit on top. I've used raspberries but you can use mixed fruit or whatever. Pour jelly over it. Let the jelly set well over night. Then pour the custard, then whipped cream on top of that.

i've just made my trifle and its alcohol free as am pregnat so here goes

  • maderia cake sandwiched with raspberry jam and placed at bottom of glass dish - i did several layers
  • freshly squeezed orange juice over the sponge - used about 5 oranges
  • pureed some raspberries with icing sugar and sieved and poured those over the sponge
  • then placed some fresh raspberries on top of sponge
  • layer of custard - now chilling in fridge
  • tomorrow will whip cream for final layer and sprinkle with toasted flaked almonds
